Deadman's Island

デッドマンズ・アイランドの名前は先住民の人たちが樹葬（Tree-burial）を1880年代までこの島で行っていた事からきている。1890年代にはこの島は天然痘の隔離病棟として使われ、同時期に木橋も架けられる。1901年にはその病院は使われなくなる。2007年に国政府から借りていた期限が過ぎ、水上バス停や民族資料館を作る計画などが議論されている最中である。
The name of Deadman’s Island came from the aboriginal custom of tree-burial in the 1880s. In the 1890s, the Deadman’s Island used to use as a smallpox isolation hospital and footbridge was built. In 1901, the hospital fell into disuse. The city's current lease of Deadman's Island from the federal government expired in 2007.
